Jonathan Herman (“Demonologists”) has been hired to pen the latest draft of the script for the biopic “Straight Outta Compton” which Universal Pictures is picking up out of turnaround at New Line.
F. Gary Gray remains attached to helm the project tracing the roots of the seminal rap group and their rise to fame against the violence-plagued streets of L.A.’s Compton neighborhood.
Arabian Prince, DJ Yella, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, and Ice Cube formed the original members who, for better or worse, were key in the foundation of the gangsta rap sub genre of hip hop.
Cube, Dre, Tomica Woods and Matt Alvarez are producing. Alan Wenkus and Leigh Savidge wrote the original script.
