Compton Gets An Extended Director’s Cut

Following its superb $161 million domestic (and far less impressive $39 million overseas) haul from a $28 million budget, Universal’s gangster rap drama “Straight Outta Compton” is coming to DVD, Blu-ray and VOD in a super-sized edition on January 5th.

Already a behemoth that clocks in at 147 minutes, the film was famously criticised for its glossing over of various major elements in the history of N.W.A. to fit the runtime.

Universal Home Video has now announced that the home video release will include a Director’s Cut along with the theatrical. There’s no word yet on said cut’s running time or what scenes it might include though.

The discs will include plenty of deleted scenes, featurettes about both the film’s making and the group’s influence on a whole genre of music, and a commentary by director/producer F. Gary Gray.
