Comics “Iron Man” Becomes A Black Woman

Marvel Comics has revealed to TIME Magazine that at the end of the upcoming comic book event series “Civil War II,” Tony Stark will step down from the role of Iron Man with the new character, an African-American woman named Riri Williams taking over.

In the comics, Riri is a science genius who enrolls in MIT at the age of 15. She comes to the attention of Tony when she builds her own Iron Man suit in her dorm. “Iron Man” creator and writer Brian Michael Bendis is the one behind the change and tells the magazine that so far the reaction has been great.

The news comes one day after Marvel made similar news by announcing the formation of a new ‘Champions’ team with millennial-aged fan-favorite characters like Miles Morales, Kamala Khan and Amaeus Cho.
