First introduced in Netflix’s “Jessica Jones” series last month, Mike Colter’s portrayal of Marvel Comics hero Luke Cage in the series drew raves and had many keen to check out the full-on “Luke Cage” series currently in production ahead of an airing sometime next year.
One thing Colter’s character didn’t have in ‘Jones’ was the character’s signature outfit – namely a yellow shirt. Colter was recently asked about that by The L.A. Times who wondered if the outfit was being saved for sometime later, likely several episodes into the “Luke Cage” series. Colter says:
“Jessica is her series. Anything that’s primarily Luke Cage we want to save for Luke Cage’s series. I’m not saying that you’re going to see the yellow shirt, but if you’re going to see it, it’ll be in Luke Cage’s series.”
So will his costume just be dismissed as a throwaway joke like Jessica Jones’ was in her series? Colter says the writers know what they are doing and how to acknowledge and handle the right amount of fan service:
“The writers have been very clever and very on point with the way they allowed this to be grounded in realism while paying homage to the comic book and what comic book fans know to be their world…To try and not give the fans what they want would be a mistake; that being said, it’s going to be a unique way of delivering it. But they’re going to get what they want eventually.”
“Luke Cage” comes to Netflix in 2016.
