After months of interviews to find the right author, filmmaker Michael Mann has found his co-writer for the proposed prequel novel to his landmark 1995 crime film “Heat”.
“Where It Hurts” author Reed Farrel Coleman, a four-time Edgar Award-nominated author, will collaborate with Mann to tell an origin story involving the characters from the Al Pacino-Robert De Niro-led ensemble drama.
Mann did a ton of research for the original film which Coleman will now have access to for research. The novel will be published next year under the Michael Mann imprint at William Morrow/HarperCollins.
“Heat” recently celebrated its 20th anniversary with a new Director’s Definitive Edition cut coming to Blu-ray on May 9th.
