British TV is casting up with word today that John Simm (“Life on Mars”), Nicola Walker (“Spooks”) and Billie Piper (“Penny Dreadful”) are set to join Netflix and BBC Two’s contemporary thriller “Collateral”. Set over a four day span, Carey Mulligan leads the cast of the David Hare created drama that explores the spiralling repercussions surrounding the fatal shooting of a pizza delivery man.
Mulligan plays a Detective Inspector who refuses to accept that the murder is a random act of senseless violence and becomes determined to discover if there is a darker truth. Simm plays a politician embroiled in the mess, Piper plays his ex-wife and Walker plays a compassionate vicar having an affair with the only witness.
Over on BBC One, the network has set Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Witch”), Romola Garai (“Atonement”) and Alex Hassell (“Cold Mountain”) to star in the three-part period thriller series “The Miniaturist” based on the best-selling novel by Jessie Burton. Paapa Essiedu, Hayley Squires and Emily Berrington also star in the John Brownlow-penned and Guillem Morales-directed story set in Amsterdam in 1686.
Taylor Joy plays a country woman arranged to be married to a wealthy merchant (Hassell). Moving into his house, she’s met by his cold sister (Garai) and realises nothing is as it seems – with much of it tying back to a miniature replica of the home which is being furnished by an elusive Miniaturist and reflecting what is happening in the house.
