Sacha Baron Cohen is in early talks to star and Aaron Sorkin is attached to direct “The Trial of the Chicago 7” for Amblin Entertainment.
The project has been long-in-the-works with Paul Greengrass, Steven Spielberg and Ben Stiller having been attached as potential helmers at one point or another.
The story chronicles the events leading up a group of activists being charged in relation to protests that took place during the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
Sorkin penned the script over a decade ago, but this is the first time his name has been linked as the director with the acclaimed scribe making his directorial debut with “Molly’s Game” last year. Cohen was previously attached to the Spielberg version, fell off the project, and is now coming back around.
