CMT Orders A Sixth Season Of “Nashville”

CMT announced on Monday that it has given a sixteen-episode order for a sixth season of the country music drama “Nashville”. That season will air in early 2018.

Additionally, Jeffrey Nordling (“Big Little Lies”) has scored a recurring role as a narcissistic record label owner in the second half of season five which has just been set for a June 1st premiere. That second half consists of eleven more episodes.

Nordling joins the previously announced Rachel Bilson and Kaitlin Doubleday who have signed on for major roles. The new cast comes several weeks after star and producer Connie Britton exited the series midway through season five. The second half of season five will pick up ten weeks after her passing.

CMT estimates that the show has been averaging 2.1 million viewers a week in Live+7, a steep drop from its broadcast network days.
