“10 Cloverfield Lane” director Dan Trachtenberg is in talks to helm a biopic about master illusionist Harry Houdini at Lionsgate.
Based on William Kalush and Larry Sloman’s book “The Secret Life of Houdini: The Making of America’s First Superhero,” the story reimagines Houdini as not just a master escape artist but an investigator of the world of the occult. Noah Oppenheim wrote the screenplay while Frank Marshall and Bruce Cohen will produce.
The film was first announced back in 2014 with Johnny Depp slated to star and Dean Parisot set to direct. Shooting was to begin early 2015 but then the project simply vanished. Now it has finally resurfaced.
The project isn’t to be confused with STX’s “The Witch of Lime Street” which deals with the rivalry between Harry Houdini and psychic Margery Crandon. At last report Andres Muschietti will be helming that film.
