Two of this year’s potential Oscar best actress contenders – veteran Glenn Close and newcomer Elizabeth Olsen (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) – are set to co-star in a new film adaptation of Emile Zola’s 19th century tome “Therese Raquin” reports EW.
Set in 1867 Paris, the story revolves around a young woman named Therese (Olsen) forced into an arranged marriage with her sickly first cousin. She soon begins a turbulent and ultimately devastating affair with Laurent, a friend of her husband. Close plays Madame Raquin, Therese’s aunt.
Charlie Stratton penned the adaptation and is helping the project which is taking the tone of a “dark and erotic thriller”. Shooting kicks off this Spring.
