Clooney Seeks Gosling For “Farragut North”

Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to replace Leonardo DiCaprio in the political drama “Farragut North” for Smoke House reports Deadline.

Based on a play by Beau Willimon, the story follows a young, idealistic communications director who works for an inspiring, though unorthodox, presidential candidate. During the campaign, his career is done in by more seasoned politicos who thrive on poisonous partisan politics, dirty tricks and back-stabbing.

Willimon loosely based the story on Howard Dean’s 2004 presidential election campaign which he worked on. DiCaprio was attached to star when the project was originally setup in 2007, while Jake Gyllenhaal was linked at one point.

George Clooney co-wrote the script and will both direct and produce the feature which he is independently financing.
