George Clooney is teaming with “Bridge of Spies” writer Matt Charman for a new eight-part limited series about Watergate for Sonar Entertainment and Netflix.
The Rashomon-style series will look at the same events from different perspectives and angles with each episode focusing on one of the people involved in the scandal. Two such characters of focus will be attorney general John Mitchell and Nixon counsel John Ehrlichman.
The Watergate scandal took place in June 1972 after a break-in by five men at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate office complex in Washington D.C. with Nixon’s administration trying to cover up its involvement and ultimately leading him to resign from office.
Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures will produce with the pair serving as executive producers. Charman will write the scripts.
