Clive Owen Returns For BMW Short “The Escape”

Back in 2001, BMW commissioned eight short films in a series titled “The Hire”. While the plots of each one differed, the one constant was then rising young actor Clive Owen starred as ‘The Driver’ and in each film was hired by various people to be a transporter for their vital needs.

Each of the shorts also boasted a world class director – John Frankenheimer, Ang Lee, Wong Kar-wai, Guy Ritchie, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, John Woo, Joe Carnahan, and Tony Scott. Numerous major names popped up in roles in them as well including Gary Oldman, Forest Whitaker, Don Cheadle, F. Murray Abraham, Marilyn Manson, Danny Trejo, Mickey Rourke, Stellan Skarsgard and Madonna.

Now, fifteen years later, BMW of North America has announced the return of the character and format with “The Escape,” a new 11-minute short film directed by Neill Blomkamp (“District 9,” “Elysium”) and boasting Clive Owen reprising his role. Dakota Fanning, Jon Bernthal and Vera Farmiga are also involved in the short which is being presented as a homage to the original.
