Jemaine Clement, Penelope Wilton and Rebecca Hall are all set to join Mark Rylance, Ruby Barnhill and Bill Hader in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic kid’s novel “The BFG”.
The story follows a young girl named Sophie (Barnhill) encountering the giant (Rylance) who has made it his mission to collect good dreams and gift them to children, while destroying nightmares and keeping his nasty fellow giants from eating the kids.
Clement will play a giant, Wilton and Hall are said to be playing The Queen and her maid Mary respectively. David Adamthwaite, Daniel Bacon, Chris Gibbs, Adam Godley, Jonathan Holmes, Paul Moniz de Sa and Olafur Olaffson are also onboard.
The casting additions come as Walt Disney Pictures boards the project as co-producer and co-financer, marking Spielberg’s first directorial effort for the company. The script has been adapted by Melissa Mathieson.
Filming is now underway in Vancouver ahead of a July 22nd 2016 release.
