20th Century Fox is in the early stages of a sequel to the classic 1980 women dealing with male chauvinism in the workplace comedy “9 to 5”.
Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin starred in the original as secretaries who watch themselves passed over for promotions, and their getting ideas stolen in a culture of rampant sexual harassment.
When their sexist, narcissistic, lying bigot boss (Dabney Coleman) blackmails one into sleeping with him, the trio kidnap and keep him tied up as they uncover his embezzlement scheme and a way to cash in.
The new take reportedly focuses on three young women dealing with sexism and chauvinism in the workplace, who turn to the trio of characters from the original for help in navigating and getting even with the course male higher-ups.
All three original stars are reportedly eager to reprise their roles and early talks are underway with creator Pat Resnick to team with a young writer for the project with actress-scribe Rashida Jones sought. Shawn Levy, Resnick and Jonathan Baruch will produce.
