Actress Claire Foy, who broke through as Queen Elizabeth II in the first two seasons of “The Crown,” will return to the role for key scenes in the upcoming fourth season of the show.
The series was originally conceived as six seasons, each season running a decade of real-life events, with the cast being swapped out every two seasons to age them up. Olivia Colman took over Foy’s role for the just-released third season and the currently in production fourth season.
The Wrap reports that Foy was reportedly spotted on the set of the fourth season wearing a white dress and pearls in an outfit that is said to resemble the one Elizabeth wore for her 21st birthday speech. Thus it’s likely the season will include a flashback to that moment while the show’s main narrative will be set in the 1980s.
It’s not clear if Foy will appear in other flashback scenes or how big the appearance is, and Netflix has yet to comment on Foy’s return.
