“The Crown” actress Claire Foy has reportedly emerged as the front-runner to play iconic “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” hacker lead character Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” at Sony Pictures.
THR reports that the studio is keen to sign Foy on for the project which “Don’t Breathe” helmer Fede Alvarez is directing based on David Lagercrantz’s follow-up novel to Stieg Larsson‘s original trilogy.
However, there’s a possible schedule conflict as she’s also being sought for Damien Chazelle’s Neil Armstrong biopic “First Man”. “Rogue One” actress Felicity Jones is also said to be a favoured choice.
Published in 2015, the story sees Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander re-teaming to uncover a deadly secret at the center of a tangled web of spies, cyber criminals, and governments around the world.
Both Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara have previously taken on the role. Rapace played it across all three films of the Swedish-language adaptations of the novel trilogy, while Mara starred in David Fincher’s 2012 ‘Dragon Tattoo’ adaptation at Sony.
