Following her stunning directorial debut “The Babadook” taking the horror world by storm, Australian filmmaker Jennifer Kent has enlisted Sam Claflin (“The Hunger Games”) and Aisling Franciosi (“The Fall”) for the lead roles in her follow-up film “Nightingale” at Bron Creative and Made Up Stories.
Set in Tasmania in 1825, the story follows a 21-year-old Irish convict who, after witnessing the brutal murder of her husband and baby by her soldier master, takes justice into her own hands.
She finds an Aboriginal male tracker to enter the wilderness with her to seek revenge. Damon Herriman (“Justified”), Ewen Leslie (“Wonderland”), Harry Greenwood (“Hacksaw Ridge “), Aboriginal Djuki Mala dancer Baykali Ganambarr and East Arnhem Land indigenous model Magnolia Maymuru also star.
Bruna Papandrea and Kristina Ceyton will produce. The film has already been picked up in Australia by Transmission.
