“The Square” star Claes Bang has been cast as the villain of “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” the upcoming sequel to “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” that also serves as a minor reboot of the franchise.
Clare Foy plays Lisbeth Salander, the young female hacker who is contacted by journalist Mikael Blomkvist to help him out after he receives a call from a source who claims to have been given information vital to the United States by a young female hacker. Together they are drawn into a ruthless underworld of spies, cybercriminals, and government operatives.
There’s no official word on what role Bang will be playing, though potentially it’s Holtser, an assassin for the enigmatic criminal organization ‘The Spider Society’. Sylvia Hoeks (“Blade Runner 2049”) has scored the role of Lisbeth’s twin sister Camilla, but the casting of Mikael Blomkvist has not yet been announced. Fede Alvarez helms the new film from a script he co-wrote with Steven Knight and Jay Basu from the David Lagercrantz’s 2015 novel.
The film is targeting an October 19th 2018 release.
