City of Z Adaptation Loses Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt has dropped out of the long-gestating film adaptation of David Grann’s non-fiction book “The Lost City of Z” at Paramount Pictures reports Vulture.

Pitt was to play Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, a former decorated British soldier turned early 20th century explorer who, along with his son, disappeared in 1925 during an expedition to find an ancient lost city in the uncharted jungles of the Amazon.

James Gray adapted the screenplay and at last report was scheduled to direct. However Pitt allegedly dropped out after an impasse with Paramount over Gray’s compensation for the film, which is why the news emerged yesterday that Pitt had begun negotiations for the mobster comedy “Cogan’s Trade”.
