Cinemax, HBO’s sibling pay-cable channel, has committed to the initial season of EuropaCorp’s TV series based on their popular “The Transporter” film franchise reports Deadline.
The program isn’t coming cheap, the twelve episode first season is said to cost a sizeable $48 million which French producer Lagardere Entertainment is fully financing.
Like the films starring Jason Statham, the show follows a professional transporter who is hired to carry out various jobs, usually taking top secret packages from one place to another. Luc Besson will produce the series which begins shooting this Summer in Europe and Canada.
The project marks the second series order made by Cinemax following on from their partnering with Sky for the ten-episode action series “Strike Back” starring Andrew Lincoln (“The Walking Dead”) and Richard Armitage (“The Hobbit,” “Spooks”).
