In the race for preferred media player, Google’s Chromecast led the pack in 2015 according to new data from Strategy Analytics.
42 million streaming devices shipped last year with 35% of them being the Google Chromecast, leading to an overall penetration of the market at 27 million units.
Apple TV still leads the pack with 37 million total units sold, while Roku is in third with 20 million streaming boxes and sticks sold. Amazon’s Fire TVs and Fire TV sticks on the other hand have shipped less than 10 million units.
This doesn’t include Smart TVs which amounted for 54 percent of all connected device shipments in 2015. It also doesn’t include game consoles and internet-enabled Blu-ray players which are used as well.
