In one of the most unexpected pairings of recent times, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures have announced that they’re reviving the “Saw” horror franchise with a new entry, one with a story conceived by comedian Chris Rock and said to be something of a reimagining.
Joe Drake, Chairman of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, says in a statement: “When Chris Rock came to us and described in chilling detail his fantastic vision that reimagines and spins-off the world of the notorious Jigsaw Killer, we were all-in.”
He adds: “This upcoming film will still be as mind-bending and intense as all the previous Saw films. Chris conceived this idea and it will be completely reverential to the legacy of the material while reinvigorating the brand with his wit, creative vision and passion for this classic horror franchise.”
Mark Burg and Oren Koules will produce and “Saw 2” helmer Darren Lynn Bousman will direct. Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, who penned “Jigsaw,” are writing the script based on Rock’s story. Rock will executive produce alongside Daniel Heffner, James Wan and Leigh Whannell.
The new “Saw” will be released on October 23rd 2020.
