“Child’s Play” Remake Won’t Be Supernatural

Childs Play Remake Wont Be Supernatural

MGM’s upcoming film remake of the 1988 horror classic “Child’s Play” is reportedly set to ditch the supernatural aspects of the story and adopt a more sci-fi thriller tone.

ComicBook.com reports that the new take, from filmmaker Lars Klevberg (“Polaroid”), won’t feature a doll possessed by a serial killer but rather: “a defective ‘buddy doll’ whose programming code was hacked so that he has no limitations to learning and also violence.”

The “Child’s Play” reboot will begin shooting next month and is effectively a standalone, separate from the original Don Mancini films which starred Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky. Mancini, Dourif and producer David Kirschner are still planning further “Child’s Play” movies and a TV series both continuing the original continuity.
