In a recent interview with MTV News, actress Jessica Chastain confirmed old reports that she had turned down what she described as a “boring civilian role” in “Iron Man 3,” likely the role that went to Rebecca Hall. Her reasons for turning it down are understandable:
“If you’re going to be in a superhero movie, you only get one chance. You’re that character forever. So why do a superhero movie and play the boring civilian? Whatever it is, I want a fight scene. I could be an incredible villain. I could be a hero. I want a cool outfit, and I want to kick ass.”
The surprise though was her next comment – that she almost scored a role in which there was the possibility of the character becoming a superheroine
“There was this… I don’t want to say too much – but there was one thing, there was a possibility in the future of the character becoming… And I was like, ‘I understand that, but I want to do it now.'”
This quickly led to speculation that she was referring to the role of Carol Danvers a.k.a Captain Marvel. She also indicated in the interview she knows about the Captain Marvel movie and its release date.
A few hours later though, the actress took to Twitter to shoot down the speculation, saying that role she almost scored was from some time ago:
Oops uh oh….I’ve never had talks about Captain Marvel. Was referring to a different film from over a year ago, in my recent MTV interview.
