“Charmed,” “American Hero” Reboots Get Pilots

The CW has ordered two drama pilots for the 2018-2019 season, one of which is the long-awaited reboot of the “Charmed” franchise. The original followed three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches.

The project was originally in development at the network last year but was rolled into this year and the previous 1970s setting was scrapped in favour of a contemporary one. The original ran for eight seasons on the WB and starred Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, and Rose McGowan.

“Jane the Virgin” creator Jennie Urman will executive produce along with Brad Silberling, Jessica O’Toole, Ben Silverman, and Amy Rardin. Silberling will direct.

Over on ABC, the network is moving forward with its reboot of “The Greatest American Hero”. In the new take, a single-camera half-hour comedy format, the story follows an Indian-American woman from Cleveland whose only real skill is partying. She becomes entrusted with an extraterrestrial super suit to protect the planet.

“Fresh Off the Boat” writer-producer Rachna Fruchbom penned the pilot and executive produces alongside Nahnatchka Khan, Mandy Summers and Tawnia McKiernan.
