Charlie Hunnam Is “King Arthur” For Guy Ritchie

“Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam has apparently emerged as director Guy Ritchie’s choice and is said to be in final negotiations play King Arthur in Ritchie’s film about the Arthurian legend at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Jamie Dornan was previously suggested as a potential candidate a few weeks ago, but his commitment to the “Fifty Shades Of Grey” franchise may have gotten in the way of his casting. If that report was true then it’s an interesting bit of irony considering Dornan replaced Hunnam in the lead role in ‘Grey’. It has also been reported that Henry Cavill and Jai Courtney read for the part.

Joby Harold wrote the current version of the script for what is being seen as a potential franchise. Akiva Goldsman, Tory Tunnell and Lionel Wigram are producing.

“Luther” and “Thor” actor Idris Elba is also reportedly circling the role of Merlin, whilst Elizabeth Olsen is the front runner for the female lead.

The project marks the furthest along attempt yet by the studio who has been trying to get an Arthurian film off the ground for some time. Warners has had several different incarnations in development over the past few years.

It is currently slated for a July 22nd 2016 release.
