Made in the wake of his SNL hosting debut, Dave Chappelle’s three comedy special deal at Netflix is reportedly worth up to $60 million according to a report from Page Six.
Two were already produced but never released and hail from his personal archive. The third will be produced exclusively for Netflix. The shows will be released simultaneously next year – and mark his first specials in twelve years.
An insider said: “Dave was offered $20 million a special. Netflix basically has a war chest for this kind of content. Whether it’s a loss or not, Dave Chappelle’s specials will get a lot of press and bring in new subscribers.”
In 2005, Chappelle famously walked away from his successful “Chappelle’s Show” and out of the public eye – in doing so though he took a financial hit. The Netflix deal comes not long after the streaming giant landed two stand-up specials from Chris Rock as part of a $40 million deal.
