“Call Me By Your Name” and “Lady Bird” breakout actor and Oscar nominee Timothee Chalamet is in final talks for the lead role of Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming two-film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel “Dune” for Legendary.
Set in the distant future, the story follows Paul whose noble family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only planet capable of producing the highly valuable resource known as the spice melange which allows for space travel, control of Arrakis is highly contested amongst the noble families.
When the Atreides are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as a betrayed Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis. The work has previously been adapted for the screen twice – as a 1984 film directed by David Lynch starring Kyle MacLachlan, and a 2000 TV mini-series starring Alec Newman.
Chalamet will next be seen in the addiction drama “Beautiful Boy” alongside Steve Carrell, and is currently filming a role as King Henry V in David Michod’s “The King”.
