One of the most famous scenes from George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” novels will finally be realised in the upcoming fifth season of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” but it’s going to come at a rather high price.
A few months back came word that proposed filming on the key scene of Cersei’s penance walk hit a snag during production in Croatia. It seems the local Church Of St. Nicholas found out about the scene and promptly blocked the show’s filming permits so they couldn’t shoot the scene there.
Now, TMZ reports that filming has gone ahead on the scene, but all the way across the other side of town. New permits were secured, local shop owners were paid off to leave during the four-day shoot and approximately two hundred security guards were hired to make sure no-one caught illicit snaps of it.
Only four people were on hand when actress Lena Heady stripped down and conducting the nude walk. The total cost of the four day shoot? A whopping $200,000 for what is essentially an FX-free scene.
“Game of Thrones” is expected to return to HBO in the second quarter of next year.
