CBS has begun development of a modern-day multicamera comedy series reboot of iconic sitcom “The Honeymooners”.
Bob Kushell (ABC’s “The Muppets”) will pen the script and executive produce the CBS Television Studios production alongside Carl Beverly, Sarah Timberman, Jeff Greenstein and Eric and Kim Tannenbaum whom will all also executive produce.
This version centers on two couples, best friends and neighbors like the original, who contend with a new dynamic when one couple remarries after divorcing four years earlier.
CBS has also put “How I Met Your Father,” its previously shelved “How I Met Your Mother” spin-off, back into development with “This Is Us” scribes Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger penning the script.
The ensemble show is told from the female point of view and involves an entirely new set of characters and writers. Similar to the original, the project tells the story of how the main character met their eventual spouse.
Original series creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas would serve as executive producers, but can’t be involved directly due to a current deal at Sony Television.
