I Am Wrath
John Travolta is in talks to star in the Chuck Russell-directed indie action-thriller “I Am Wrath” for Patriot Pictures. Michael Mendelsohn, Nick Vallelonga and Richard Salvatore are producing and filming begins next month in Ohio.
Travolta will play a man out for vigilante justice after a group of corrupt cops are unable to catch his wife’s killer. Paul Sloan penned the script based on a story by Yvan Gauthier, and the hope is this will be to Travolta what “Taken” was to Liam Neeson. [Source: The Wrap]
Universal Pictures has acquired the action comedy pitch “Mother” which will be developed as a star vehicle for Halle Berry. Berry and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas will produce and Pablo Fenjves will write the screenplay. [Source: Deadline]
The Emperor’s Children
Jeff Bridges is attached to star in Lake Bell’s adaptation of Claire Messud’s best-selling novel “The Emperor’s Children” for Imagine Entertainment. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins will produce and Noah Baumbach penned the script.
Set in the days leading up to 9/11, the story deals with a legendary journalist and liberal opinion-maker (Bridges), the ambition and pride of his family and friends, and his entanglement with his daughter’s best friend. Filming aims to begin later this year. [Source: THR]
Untitled Taliban Shuffle Comedy
Alfred Molina, Billy Bob Thornton and Sheila Vand have all joined the cast of Tina Fey’s untitled comedy based on Kim Barker’s memoir “The Taliban Shuffle”. Filming has officially begun in New Mexico.
Tina Fey and Margot Robbie play rival news reporters who must navigate the male-dominated world of journalism in Afghanistan. The trio joins a cast that also includes Martin Freeman, Christopher Abbott, Nicholas Braun, Stephen Peacocke and Evan Jonigkeit. [Source: Deadline]
