Pacific Rim: Maelstrom
Nick Tarabay (“Spartacus”) has joined the cast of the Steven S. DeKnight-directed “Pacific Rim” sequel which began shooting this week in Australia. The sequel is based on the world created by Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 original about robots vs. kaijus.
John Boyega, Scott Eastwood and Jing Tian star in the film which will be released February 23rd 2018 by Universal Pictures around the world with the exception of China. [Source: Variety]
Jim Parsons (“the Big Bang Theory”) is in talks to star as Buzzfeed editor Matt Stopera in “Brother Orange” for Warner Bros. Pictures and Buzzfeed Films.
The story covers the aftermath of Stopera’s iPhone being stolen at a New York bar in 2014 and follows Stopera as he tracks down the mysterious man, who’s selfies (taken with orange trees) begin appearing mysteriously on his iCloud feed, all the way to China. [Source: Variety]
Samuel L. Jackson, Joan Cusack, and Bradley Whitford have joined Brie Larson in her independent comedy directorial debut “Unicorn Store” for Rhea Films. Shooting just began in Los Angeles.
The story centers on a woman who moves back in with her parents. She receives an invitation to a store that will test her ideas of what it really means to grow up. Samantha McIntyre penned the script. [Source: Variety]
Hannah Marks (“Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency”) has scored the lead role in Blank and Erik Jensen’s indie drama “Almost Home”. Marks plays a complex and damaged teenager who reluctantly takes a middle-school runaway under her wing.
Based on a novel by Jessica Blank, the story follows a group of homeless youth on the streets of Los Angeles that are part of the ‘gutter punk’ subculture. They form an unlikely family while trying to survive the harsh, unforgiving realities of the city. Kevin Breznahan, Sean Martini, Max Burkholder, Niko Guardado, Sam Dillon, Kathleen Rose Perkins and Robert LaSardo co-star. [Source: Deadline]
