Brooklyn Nine-Nine
“Sons of Anarchy” and “Futurama” star Katey Sagal has been set to play the mother of Andy Samberg’s Jake Peralta in FOX’s sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”. The character will first appear in one of the first episodes back next year. Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing”) also returns in the role of Jake’s absentee father Roger. [Source: TV Line]

Untitled Girl Group Project
Queen Latifah is set to star in “Empire” co-creator Lee Daniels’ untitled girl group pilot. The story centers on three young women (Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady) who form a girl group with hopes of making it big in the industry, and the choices they face along the way to success and stardom.

Latifah will play Carlotta, the owner of an Atlanta beauty salon who boasts an amazing voice and becomes a surrogate mother to the three girls – though she doesn’t approve of their musical aspirations. Production begins this month in Atlanta. [Source: The Live Feed]

American Gothic
Justin Chatwin (“Shameless”) and Megan Ketch (“Under The Dome”) have been cast as two of the leads in CBS’ murder mystery summer drama series “American Gothic” from Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios.

Corinne Brinkerhoff’s series centers on a prominent Boston family attempting to redefine itself in the wake of a discovery that links their recently deceased patriarch to a decades-long string of murders spanning. Suspicion grows that one of them may have been his accomplice. [Source: Deadline]

The True Memoirs of an International Assassin
“Sons of Anarchy” scene stealer Kim Coates has joined Jeff Wadlow’s comedy feature “The True Memoirs of an International Assassin” for Netflix. Jeff Morris penned the script with the film to premiere on the streaming service in 2016.

Kevin James plays a fiction writer whose novel about an international assassin accidentally is published as nonfiction, leading him to be caught in a web of danger and intrigue as he’s forced to flee to Belize. Shooting is currently underway. [Source: Deadline]

Valerian
John Goodman has closed a deal to join Luc Besson’s big budget sci-fi pic “Valerian” at Europa Corp. Goodman will provide the voice for an alien character in the film which opens July 2017.

Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke and Rihanna star in the story about two time-travel agents from the the 28th century who protect the planets of the Terran Empire. The film is based on a comic created by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mezieres in 1967. [Source: Variety]
