The Ballad of Richard Jewell
Sam Rockwell is in final negotiations to star in Clint Eastwood’s new drama “The Ballad of Richard Jewell” which he’s directing and producing for Malpaso. Rockwell will play the attorney who defends Jewell after he is wrongly accused.
The story is a drama based on the real-life security guard who first discovered a suspicious abandoned backpack during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and saved hundreds of lives. He then went on to become one of the most hated men in America. [Source: Variety]
Lexi Rabe, Paul Walter Hauser and Katie Aselton are joining Jason Clarke, Nick Robinson, Alexandra Shipp, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Jimmi Simpson and Cole Sprouse in Tiller Russell’s true crime feature “Silk Road” which begins filming this month.
Robinson plays criminal mastermind Ross Ulbricht who unleashed the Darknet and the ‘Jurassic Narc’ (Clarke) bent on bringing down the young kingpin’s billion-dollar empire. [Source: Deadline]
Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris and John Ortiz have signed to topline “Flint,” a film about the titular Michigan city’s water crisis. Malcolm M. Mays penned and directs the project for Will Smith and James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment. Tommy Oliver, Clarence Hammond and Dougie Cash will produce.
The story follows a spiritually reformed ex-convict who finds himself embroiled in a murder mystery, set upon by his ex-lover and a young mentee that unravels the very fabric of the water crisis afflicting the community he grew up in. [Source: Deadline]
Melissa McCarthy and Chris O’Dowd are in talks to star for “St. Vincent” director Ted Melfi in Matt Harris’ Black List script comedy “The Starling” which aims to shoot this Summer. Dylan Sellers, Chris Parker, Melfi and Kimberly Quinn will produce.
The story follows a married couple who suffers a tragedy that strains their relationship. While her husband heads off to deal with grief in recovery, Lily Maynard stays home and builds a beautiful garden for her in the backyard. Are You Afraid of the Dark
Sam Ashe Arnold, Miya Cech, Tamara Smart, Jeremy Taylor and Lyliana Wray will all star in the reimagining of the anthology series “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” which is coming together at Nickelodeon. BenDavid Grabinski pens while Dean Israelite helms the project.
Consisting of just three hour-long episodes, the show will premiere this October and introduce a new Midnight Society group of kids who will tell the terrifying tale of the Carnival of Doom, only to have the events of the story come to life. Rafael Casal also reportedly has a role. [Source: Variety]
