Casting: Reedus, Reilly, Caan, Grace

Triple Nine
Norman Reedus (“The Walking Dead”) has joined the ensemble cast of John Hillcoat’s “Triple Nine” at Open Road Films. Filming begins this summer.

The story follows a crew of dirty cops blackmailed by the Russian mob to execute a virtually impossible heist. The only way to pull it off is to manufacture a 999, police code for “officer down.” Their plan is turned upside down when the unsuspecting rookie they set up to die foils the attack. John C. Reilly, Ashley Jensen, Michael Smiley and Jessica Barden are set to join Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz in Yorgos Lanthimos’ English-language debut “The Lobster”. Filming is now underway in Ireland.

Set in the near future, the story posits that single people are arrested and obliged to find a mate within 45 days of their incarceration in a hotel. If they fail to do so, they are transformed into an animal and released into the wild. [Source: THR]

Rock the Casbah
Scott Caan will replace Shia LaBeouf in the role of a Kabul-based con man in Barry Levinson’s indie comedy “Rock the Kasbah”. Bruce Willis, Zooey Deschanel, Kate Hudson and Danny McBride also star with filming to begin in June.

Bill Murray plays a has-been rock manager who takes his last remaining client on a USO tour of Afghanistan. When he finds himself in Kabul, abandoned, penniless and without his passport, he discovers a young girl with an extraordinary voice and manages her through Afghanistan’s version of “American Idol.” [Source: Variety]

American Ultra
Topher Grace has joined Nima Nourizadeh’s action comedy “American Ultra” at Lionsgate. Jessie Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Uma Thurman and Walton Goggins also star.

Eisenberg plays a stoner whose small-town life with his live-in girlfriend (Stewart) is upended when his past catches up with him, putting him the crosshairs of a government operation bent on wiping him out. Grace will play a power-hungry CIA agent who has recently taken on seniority and is determined to hunt Eisenberg’s character down. [Source: Deadline]
