Casting: Ramirez, Portman, Bates, Lane, Garner

Edgar Ramirez is in final negotiations to play the dapper but philandering husband of Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano (Jennifer Lawrence) in David O. Russell’s film “Joy” for Fox 2000. Filming is slated to begin in early February.

Mangano began her inventing as a teen and kept on dreaming and tinkering while still a single mom raising three kids. John Davis, Ken Mok and John Fox are producing. [Source: THR]

The Death and Life of John F. Donovan
Oscar-winners Kathy Bates and Susan Sarandon have joined the cast of “Mommy” director Xavier Dolan’s “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan”. Bates is being slated for the role of the title character’s high-powered manager, while Sarandon will play his mother.

The story follows fictional actor John F. Donovan (Kit Harington) – made famous for playing a Marvel-style superhero 0 whose life and career are turned upside-down when his private letters with an 11-year-old fan are exposed and made to look indecent by a villainous gossip columnist (Jessica Chastain). Inside Out
Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan are set to voice the parents of the eleven-year-old girl Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) at the center of Pixar’s new film “Inside Out” due out in June.

The story deals with the emotions operating inside her head: Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler), Anger (Lewis Black), Fear (Bill Hader), Sadness (Phyllis Smith) and Disgust (Mindy Kaling). Pete Docter says the parents play a crucial role since Riley is seen through their eyes. [Source: USA Today]

The Tribes of Palos Verdes
Jennifer Garner, Tye Sheridan and Maika Monroe are set to star in D.J. Caruso’s surf drama “The Tribes of Palos Verdes” at Relativity. Karen Croner penned the script based on Joy Nicholson’s 1998 novel and filming is slated to begin in February.

The story is set in the upscale beach town of Palos Verdes, California and follows two teenagers whose home lives devolve after they move to the town from Michigan with their parents. The female teen (Monroe) turns to surfing as an escape. [Source: Variety]
