Sarah Paulson is in negotiations to join John Crowley’s “The Goldfinch,” a film adaptation of the Donna Tartt Pulitzer-winning novel setup at Warner Bros. Pictures and Amazon Studios. Paulson will play Xandra, the girlfriend of the father of Theo (Ansel Elgort).
The story follows a young man who survives a terrorist bombing at an art museum – an attack that kills his mother. From there, he tumbles through a series of adventures that finds him living in Las Vegas with his deadbeat father and, later, involved in art forgeries. Filming begins early 2018. [Source: Variety]
Craig Roberts (“Red Oaks,” “Submarine”) has been cast in the Dome Karukoski-directed biopic “Tolkien” at Fox Searchlight and Chernin Entertainment.
David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford penned the story which focuses on the early life of the author J.R.R. Tolkien as he finds friendship, love and artistic inspiration among a group of fellow outcasts at school. Roberts plays Sam, with whom Tolkien serves during World War I, the horrors of which threaten to tear the ‘fellowship’ apart. [Source: Variety]
A White Lie
Zendaya is set to star in the psychological thriller “A White Lie” based on the Karin Tanabe novel “The Gilded Years”. Monica Beletsky is writing the script, while Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter are producing.
The true story tale deals with Anita Hemmings, a light-skinned African-American woman who passed as white so she could attend Vassar at the turn of the 20th century. [Source: Deadline]
Tiffany Haddish is in talks to join the ensemble mob drama “The Kitchen” at New Line based on the comic book series by Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle. Andrea Berloff (“Straight Outta Compton”) is penning the script.
The Irish mafia story is set in Hell’s Kitchen in the 1970s as the FBI comes in and does a sweep of the mob, several men are arrested. Their wives end up taking over and running the business much more viciously than the men ever did. [Source: Variety]
What Men Want
Paramount Players is set to fast track “What Men Want,” a remake of the Nancy Meyers-directed, Mel Gibson-led comedy “What Women Want” with a gender-bending twist. Will Packer will helm the film which is aiming for a January 11th 2019 release.
Taraji P. Henson will play a female sports agent who has been constantly boxed out by her male colleagues. When she gains the power to hear men’s thoughts, she is able to shift the paradigm to her advantage as she races to sign the NBA’s next superstar. [Source: Variety]
