300: Battle of Artemisia
UK “Skins” and “Eden Lake” star Jack O’Connell will replace Jamie Blackley as Calisto in the upcoming sequel “300: Battle for Artemisia”.

The character is inspired by his father to lead a band of soldiers to war. Sullivan Stapleton plays the lead role, Eva Green is Artesima, and Rodrigo Santoro will return as Xerxes. [Source: Daily Mail]

August: Osage County
British actress Andrea Riseborough (“W.E.”) is in talks to star as Karen in the forthcoming film adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning play “August: Osage County”.

Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts are also attached to the John Wells-directed film about a family reuniting at a rural homestead in Oklahoma after the disappearance of the alcoholic patriarch. [Source:]

Sean Astin, C. Thomas Howell, Lauren Holly, Steve Byers, Kandyse McClure and Noah Reid will all guest star on the upcoming second season of Syfy’s “Alphas”.

The Mortal Instruments
Kevin Durand and Robert Maillet have joined the cast of Harald Zwart’s film adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s “The Mortal Instruments” at Screen Gems and Constantin Films.

Lily Collins plays a seemingly ordinary teenager who discovers she is the descendent of a demon-hunting clan. Durand and Maillet will play the antagonist duo Pangborn and Blackwell. [Source: Variety]
