Gugu Mbatha-Raw (“Spooks,” “Undercovers”) has scored a supporting role in the supernatural thriller “Odd Thomas” based on Dean Koontz’s bestselling novel reports Variety.

Mbatha-Raw will play Viola, a waitress who raises two young girls after their junkie mother dies. She’s also the best friend of the female lead (Addison Timlin).

Anton Yelchin, Patton Oswalt, Nico Tortorella and Willem Dafoe are also in talks to join the cast. Shooting kicks off next month in New Mexico.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Nina Dobrev (“The Vampire Diaries”) has been cast as Candace in the film version of Stephen Chbosky’s novel “The Perks of Being A Wallflower” for Summit Entertainment says Deadline.

The story follows the trials and tribulations of a 15-year-old shy and unpopular high school student (Logan Lerman) who writes a series of letters to a mysterious penpal. Emma Watson, Mae Whitman and Paul Rudd also star.

Chbosky adapted the screenplay and makes his feature directorial debut on the project. Shooting kicks off next month in Pittsburgh.

Michael B. Jordan, Alex Russell and Ashley Hinshaw have joined the cast of the supernatural thriller “Chronicle” at 20th Century Fox reports Variety.

The story follows three Portland teens (Dane DeHaan, Jordan, Russell) after they develop powers from exposure to a mysterious substance.

Josh Trank will make his directorial debut from a script by Max Landis. John Davis and Adam Schroeder are producing.
