Casting News: McHale, Judd, Arkin

Joel McHale (“Community”) will join Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in the Frank Coraci-directed untitled romantic comedy at Warner Bros. Pictures. McHale will play Barrymore’s immature ex-husband.

The story centers on a man and a woman who, after a disastrous first date, get trapped at a family resort with their kids from previous marriages in tow. [Source: THR]

Ashley Judd has joined the cast of Neil Burger’s film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s young adult novel “Divergent” at Summit/Lionsgate. Shooting kicks off earlier this week in Chicago.

The story is set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. A young woman (Shailene Woodley) risks all to stop a war between the factions. Judd will play the mother of Woodley’s character. [Source: THR]

Million Dollar Arm
Alan Arkin will join Jon Hamm in Craig Gillespie’s baseball drama “Million Dollar Arm” at Disney Pictures, Mayhem Pictures and Roth Films. Shooting begins next month in Mumbai and Atlanta.

Hamm plays a real-life sports agent who discovered professional pitchers Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel through a reality show he staged in India with cricket players. Arkin will play a retired baseball scout. [Source: Variety]
