Casting News Hemsworth Dornan Blige Gladis

Liam Hemsworth (“The Hunger Games”) has been cast as the lead in an as-yet-untitled action-thriller series for the Jeffrey Katzenberg-founded short form content company Quibi. Phil Abraham (“Mad Men”) helms from a script by Nick Santora (“The Sopranos”) with both executive producing.

Hemsworth will play the central character of Dodge Maynard who, desperate to take care of his pregnant wife before a terminal illness can take his life, accepts an offer to participate in a deadly game where he soon discovers that he’s not the hunter, but the prey. [Source: Variety]

Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar
Jamie Dornan (“Fifty Shades of Grey”) is joining the Lionsgate comedy “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” which hails from “Bridesmaids” duo Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo. Dornan will play Edgar, a lovelorn spy who gets caught between the forces of good and evil.

Wiig and Mumolo play best friends who leave their small Midwestern town for the first time to go on vacation in Florida, where they soon find themselves tangled up in a villain’s plot to kill everyone in town. Josh Greenbaum helms the film which will open next year. [Source: THR]

Pink Skies Ahead
Mary J. Blige, Michael McKean, Lady Bird’s Odeya Rush, and Evan Ross have joined the cast of Stampede’s “Pink Skies Ahead” which just commenced production. Kelly Oxford penned and is directing the film which also stars Jessica Barden, Henry Winkler, Rosa Salazar, Lewis Pullman, Devon Bostick, and Marcia Gay Harden. Barden plays a wild young woman whose life unravels after dropping out of college, moving in with her parents, and being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. [Source: Deadline]

Penny Dreadful: City of Angels
Michael Gladis has scored a series regular role while Lorenza Izzo, Adam Rodriguez, Thomas Kretschmann, and Dominic Sherwood will have recurring and Ethan Peck will guest star in multiple episodes of the upcoming horror spin-off series “Penny Dreadful: City of Angels” for Showtime

The group joins previously announced cast members Natalie Dormer, Daniel Zovatto, Kerry Bishe, Adriana Barraza, Rory Kinnear, Jessica Garza, Johnathan Nieves, Nathan Lane, Amy Madigan, Brent Spiner, and Lin Shaye. Set in 1938 Los Angeles, a a grisly murder shocks the city, a detective becomes embroiled in a story that reflects the history of Los Angeles. [Source: Variety]
