Casting News: Bloom, Foster, Tomei, Kaling

Despite reports, Orlando Bloom is STILL not set to cameo in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit”, though it’s likely he will. Bloom told MTV News yesterday that “I’m going to bet on it. But I can’t really talk too much about it because it’s still sort of in the ether. But I would love to go back to work with Peter Jackson. It would be an honor.”

Jodie Foster is set to play “the head of state on an alien planet” in Neill Blomkamp’s “Elysium” says The LA Times. Further details on the top secret sci-fi project weren’t forthcoming.

Marisa Tomei is close to locking a deal for the female lead while Olivia Munn and Alison Pill are in talks for supporting roles in Aaron Sorkin’s new HBO pilot “More As This Story Develops” reports Deadline. The story revolves around a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), who has his own show, in addition to the show’s female executive producer (Tomei) and staff.

Mindy Kaling (“The Office,” “The 40 Year Old Virgin”) is set to play a graduate student in Universal’s new comedy “Five Year Engagement”. Jason Segel and Emily Blunt star in the Judd Apatow-produced comedy about an engaged couple’s relationship.
