Tatiana Maslany (“Orphan Black”) is in early talks to co-star with Jake Gyllenhaal in the David Gordon Green-directed Boston Marathon bombing drama “Stronger” at Lionsgate.
John Pollono has adapted the script for the film which follows bombing survivor Jeff Bauman, an aimless deli counter worker who lost both legs in the 2013 attack. Bauman was at the finishing line cheering for his girlfriend (Maslany) when it happened and found new ambition and a sense of love in the wake of what happened. [Source: Variety]
Untitled Police Shooting Series
Sanaa Lathan (“The Perfect Guy,” “Alien vs. Predator”) will star in “Love and Basketball writer/director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s new and currently untitled event TV series for FOX. Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will executive produce.
The story examines the dangerous aftermath of a police shooting when an African-American cop kills a white teenager in Tennessee. Lathan plays an expert investigator who digs into the case with the help of a Department of Justice special prosecutor (yet to be cast) and tries to find the truth before the divided town erupts into a race war. Edie Falco is set to co-star opposite Kate Mara in “Blackfish” director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s indie biopic “Megan Leavey”. Falco will play the role of Jackie Leavey, Megan’s mother.
The story follows real-life hero Megan Leavey and her military combat dog Rex who saved countless lives searching for roadside bombs during two tours in Iraq from 2004 to 2006. [Source: Deadline]
The Yellow Birds
Jack Huston and Jennifer Aniston have joined the cast of Alexandre Moors’ Iraq war drama “The Yellow Birds” for Cinelou Films. Huston replaces Benedict Cumberbatch in the project first unveiled in May at the Cannes Film Festival.
The story revolves around two young soldiers (Tye Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich) who are taken under the wing of an older sergeant (Huston) as they are deployed to Iraq. Aniston, who will portray the mother of Ehrenreich’s character. Will Poulter also stars. [Source: Variety]

Blake Jenner (“Glee”) will join Hailee Steinfeld in Kelly Fremon’s untitled wry coming-of-age drama at STX Entertainment that was previously called “Besties”. Woody Harrelson, Kyra Sedgwick and Hayden Szeto also star.
The story follows two inseparable best friends attempting to navigate high school together… until one discovers her older, popular, handsome soccer player brother (Jenner) and her friend have been secretly dating behind her back. [Source: Deadline]
