Kate Mara (“House of Cards,” “Fantastic Four”) has been offered a role in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic “The Martian” for 20th Century Fox. Drew Goddard adapted Andy Weir’s book with Matt Damon set to play a NASA astronaut left stranded on Mars after his crewmates are forced to evacuate due to a dust storm.
He fights for survival, trying to rustle up water and grow crops. Meanwhile, his fellow astronauts are kept in the dark about his survival during their voyage back to Earth. Filming is slated to begin in November. [Source: Deadline]
Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever
“Parks and Recreation” actress Aubrey Plaza is set to provide the voice for online sensation Grumpy Cat in the upcoming Lifetime live-action telemovie “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever” which premieres November 29th.
Tim Hill and Jeff Morris wrote the script about a perpetually overlooked pet-store cat and a twelve-year-old girl who can communicate with her. “Glee” star Jane Lynch was originally set to voice the role. [Source: The Live Feed]
Struck By Genius
Sony has picked up the film rights to Jason Padgett’s memoir “Struck by Genius” and is developing it as a starring and producing vehicle for Channing Tatum.
The story centers on a hard partying college dropout who became an instant math marvel at the age of 31 following his suffering a traumatic brain injury. Tatum, Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan and Michael Costigan would produce. [Source: THR]
John Leguizamo, Nick Sandow and Merritt Wever have joined the cast of Reed Morano’s “Meadowland” for Bron Studios. The film is currently shooting in New York.
The story deals with a couple who try to deal with the aftermath of their son’s disappearance. Olivia Wilde, Luke Wilson, Elisabeth Moss, Giovanni Ribisi, Ty Simpkins, Scott Mescudi, Mark Feuerstein, Kevin Corrigan and Juno Temple also star. [Source: THR]
