Make a Wish
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” star Anthony Mackie and “Dear White People” director Justin Simien are attached to direct “Make A Wish,” a comedy based on the Black List script by Zach Frenkel.
Mackie will play Butchie Jones, a football star who wants to grant the final wish of a dying fourteen-year-old who adores the gridironer. It’s not an easy wish, though; the kid wants the football star to help him score with a girl before he dies. [Source: Deadline]
Tessa Thompson (“Dear White People,” “Selma”) has scored the female lead role in MGM’s “Rocky” spinoff “Creed”. Details of her role in the Ryan Coogler-directed project are unknown.
Thompson will star alongside Michael B. Jordan as the grandson of Apollo Creed, a kid raised in the lap of luxury, who has a natural instinct for boxing and pursues a career in the sweet science, against his family’s wishes. [Source: THR]
Michael Stuhlbarg (“Boardwalk Empire,” “A Serious Man”) will join Michael Fassbender and Seth Rogen on Danny Boyle’s biopic about legendary Apple co-founder Steve Jobs at Universal Pictures. Aaron Sorkin penned the script and filming aims to begin next year.
Stuhlbarg plays the role of Andy Hertzfeld, the computer scientist and inventor who was part of the original Apple development team that came up with MacOS. He worked closely with Jobs until he left for Google in 2005. [Source: Deadline]
When the Bough Breaks
Jaz Sinclair (“Paper Towns”) has joined the cast of Jon Cassar’s psychological thriller “When the Bough Breaks” at Screen Gems.
Morris Chestnut and Regina play a professional couple who are unable to conceive their own child and consequently decide to hire a young blue collar woman as a surrogate. Tthe surrogate develops a psychotic fixation on the husband which becomes violent and deadly before the baby is even born. [Source: Variety]
