Untitled Xmas Eve Comedy
Anthony Mackie (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”) will join Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Jonathan Levine’s untitled Christmas Eve comedy at Sony Pictures, Good Universe and Point Grey.

The story follows three childhood best friends who reunite in New York City for their annual tradition of going on on Christmas Eve. Shooting is scheduled to start this summer. [Source: The Wrap]

Max Steel
Maria Bello (“A History of Violence,” “Prime Suspect”) has signed on to play Molly McGrath, the resilient single mother of protagonist Max McGrath (Ben Winchell) in the upcoming Mattel adaptation “Max Steel” at Dolphin Films and Open Road.

Bello joins a cast that includes Andy Garcia as the mysterious scientist Dr Miles Edwards, and Ana Villafane as Sofia Martinez. Stewart Hendler directs from a screenplay by Christopher Yost. [Source: Screen]

The Hero of Color City
Owen Wilson and Jessica Capshaw have joined the voice cast of the animated feature “The Hero of Color City” at Moviehouse and Magnolia Pictures. The film will open theatrically and on VOD on October 3rd.

Christina Ricci, Rosie Perez, Wayne Brady and Craig Ferguson also lend their voices to the film about crayons that come to life in a child’s bedroom at night. [Source: Screen]

Untitled Superhero Project
Stephen Dorff has signed on to star in “The Sweeney” director Nick Love’s untitled US action film, which begins shooting on May 28th for six weeks in New Orleans. Additional cast will be announced soon.

Dorff plays Melvin, a reluctant superhero, who only has an appetite for crime, women and drugs. He realizes that the only way he will ever get to see his son is to go straight and fulfil his potential as a crime fighter. [Source: Screen]

Sea of Trees
Ken Watanabe is set to join Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey in Gus Van Sant’s upcoming “Sea of Trees”. Gill Netter will produce.

McConaughey plays a man who treks to the dense forest at the foothills of Mount Fuji famous as a place for suicides. He encounters a lost Japanese man (Watanabe) and invests all his energy to save him, and saving himself in the process. [Source: Screen]
