Casting: James, Banks, Ladd, Rhys-Davies

Kevin James and Josh Gad have signed on to star in the long-gestating “Pixels” film at Sony Pictures. The feature is based on Patrick Jean’s short film in which New York City is transformed into 8-bit pixels.

The story centers on four champion arcade gamers, who are called upon to save the world when aliens attack by using the Earth to stage versions of classic 1980s video games. [Source: THR]

Term Life
Jonathan Banks (“Breaking Bad”) has signed on to co-star in the crime thriller “Term Life”. Details of his role are unknown.

Vince Vaughn plays a criminal with a contract put out on his life, causing him to get a life insurance policy for his estranged daughter (Hailee Steinfeld). It takes three weeks for the policy to go into effect, so the pair must keep the father alive for three weeks. [Source: THR]

I Dream Too Much
Diane Ladd and Eden Brolin are set to star in Katie Cokinos’ debut feature “I Dream Too Much” which Richard Linklater will executive produce. Filming begins this month in New York.

The story follows a college graduate who volunteers to care for her formidable great aunt at a time of upheaval in their lives. Danielle Brooks, Christina Rouner and James McCaffrey also star. [Source: Screen]

John Rhys-Davies has scored a series regular role in Fox’s 13-episode series “Hieroglyph” at 20th TV and Chernin Entertainment.

Set in ancient Egypt, the story follows a notorious thief who is plucked from prison to serve the Pharoah (Reece Ritchie). Rhys-Davies will play Vocifer, the thief’s one-time mentor who was a dashing thief back in his day. [Source: Deadline]

Fathers and Daughters
Haley Bennett has scored a role in Gabriele Muccino’s “Fathers And Daughters” at Voltage Films. Bennett will play Stacey, a college student who watches over the young Katie.

The story swaps between the 1980s where Jake Davis (Russell Crowe), a famous novelist and widower struggles with mental illness as he tries to raise his 5-year-old daughter, Katie, and the life of 30-year-old Katie (Amanda Seyfried) in present-day Manhattan where she battles the demons that stem from her troubled childhood.
