The Hitman’s Bodyguard’s Wife
“The Umbrella Academy,” “Game of Thrones” and “Black Sails” star Tom Hopper has signed on for the action comedy sequel “The Hitman’s Bodyguard’s Wife” for Lionsgate and Millennium Films. Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson and Salma Hayek reprise their roles in the film currently shooting in London, Croatia and Italy.

Reynolds’ Michael Bryce plans to swear off violence derailed when hitman Kincaid (Jackson) and his wife Sonia (Hayek) entangle him in their mission to wreak havoc along the Amalfi Coast in an attempt to save Europe. Hopper will play Magnusson, a fellow bodyguard. Antonio Banderas, Morgan Freeman, Frank Grillo and Richard E. Grant also star in the film which Patrick Hughes directs. [Source: THR]

Vanessa Kirby (“The Crown,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”) has signed on for the sci-fi film “StarDream” from filmmaker Bjorn Runge (“The Wife”) along with Silver Reel and Bigscope Films. Claudia Bluemhuber will produce.

The story deals with a spaceship hastily constructed to transport hundreds of thousands of cryogenically frozen humans from a failing planet Earth. When the onboard computer malfunctions, coder Andreya (Kirby) develops an artificial intelligence-based solution that she calls Stephen. But Stephen develops a profound attachment to Andreya, compromising the mission and the future of the human race. [Source: Variety]

I’m Thinking of Ending Things
Toni Collette, Jessie Buckley, and David Thewlis are set to join the cast of Charlie Kaufman’s new film “I’m Thinking of Ending Things” which is set up at Netflix based on Ian Reid’s 2016 novel. Brie Larson was linked to the project but is now out.

Jesse Plemons plays a man going on a road trip to meet his parents on their secluded farm with his girlfriend (Buckley), who is thinking of terminating their relationship. When Jake makes an unexpected detour leaving her stranded, a twisted mix of palpable tension, psychological frailty, and sheer terror ensues. [Source: Variety]

Italian actress Michela De Rossi (“Boys Cry”) has been cast in a pivotal role in “The Sopranos” prequel film “Newark” from show creator David Chase. Filming begins next week with Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, John Magaro and Michael Gandolfini co-starring.

The ensemble drama is set during in the Newark riots in the ’60s. De Rossi will play an ‘ambitious’ Italian immigrant who comes to America to settle in New Jersey. Alan Taylor is directing the film due for release next year. [Source: The Wrap]

The Hunt
Betty Gilpin (“GLOW”) has been set for the Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse-penned political thriller “The Hunt” at Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions. The story reportedly explores escalating aggressiveness between the political right and left in America, but details remain under wraps. Craig Zobel (“Z for Zachariah”) helms the film which opens October 18th. [Source: Deadline]
