The Current War
“Spider-Man: Homecoming” star Tom Holland is joining the cast of Alfonso Gomez-Rejon’s “The Current War” for The Weinstein Company. Holland will play Samuel Insull, Thomas Edison’s right hand man, in the film which will shoot early December.
The story details the battle between George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) and rival Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) to create a sustainable electricity system and market it to the United States. Katherine Waterston and Nicholas Hoult also star. [Source: Deadline]
Ryan Phillippe, Elisabeth Rohm and Shannon Purser have joined the cast of John Leonetti’s thriller “Wish Upon” for Broad Green Pictures. Barbara Marshall penned the script while Sherryl Clark is producing.

The Boxcar Children: Surprise Island
Martin Sheen and J.K. Simmons have joined the animated feature “The Boxcar Children: Surprise Island” at Legacy Classics and Shout! Factory. Sheen steps into the role of James Alden, and Simmons will voice Dr. Moore.
Based on Gertrude Chandler Warner’s best-selling children’s book series, the film is the first of three proposed films in the series with the movie targeting a late 2017 release. [Source: Deadline]
Where Hands Touch
Abbie Cornish, Christopher Eccleston and Tom Sweet have joined the cast of Amma Asante’s “Where Hands Touch” for Tantrum Films. Amandla Stenberg and George MacKay co-star.
Set in Berlin in 1944, the story follows a biracial German teenager (Stenberg) who begins a friendship with a member of the Hitler youth (MacKay). Asante wrote and is directing the project which began filming in Belgium this week. [Source: The Playlist]
